Tips for Water and Electric Conservation

In today's difficult economic times, it's often stressful to juggle career, family needs, mortgage and utility bills. Electric Conservation Tips

Replace your light bulbs - energy saving CFLs are 75% more energy efficient and available at DMU.

Insulate and weatherize - adding insulation to your attic and weather striping around doors or windows will increase the level of comfort in your home and save  money on heating and cooling bills.

Unplug - televisions, computers and many appliances waste significant amounts of power even after they have been turned off.

Replace - that "Miracle" electric heater with a warm sweater.

A typical 1500 watt electric heater costs about $45/month to operate. (based on 9 hours/day operation)

Clean - your refrigerator coils and compressor heat exchanger with a vacuum and rags.

Water Conservation Tips

Check - water filtration systems with backflow valves, they often fail in the open position causing a constant flow of water to the drain.

Fix - leaky toilet flaps and dripping faucets.

Turn off - water while brushing teeth.

Lawns - instead of sprinklers, water your lawn with a hand attachment on your hose.

Take - showers instead of baths.
